FO Friday: Conquering Bliss

Well, I've done it. I've managed to complete my first Debbie Bliss pattern. Who knew that such a cute little cardigan could make a girl so confused? Excuse the bad picture but at one point it looked like this...

 How that turned into this I'm still not sure...

Despite my inability to understand the pattern and my dislike for seaming, its done and I love it. The guy thinks this colour looks like bubble gum, so this is now the Bubblegum Cardigan (it's actually Dream in Color Classy in the colourway Cool Fire). The button was a vintage mother-of-pearl shell that I found in the button collection. Today, Bubblegum going to a brand new, wee baby that was born last week. I hope it keeps her warm this winter.

Baby Blanket Indecisiveness

I'm in a quandary. I have friends who recently found out they are expecting. My mind is already in overdrive for all of the things I will knit for this wee one. I love knitting for babies: booties, hats, sweaters, mitts, toys, you name it. I have some time before the little one is expected to arrive, but the largest investment of time and resources will have to go into a blanket. I want this blanket to be something that the little one will grow up with so I need something classic, soft, hardwearing and beautiful. I have been scouring Ravelry and Pinterest for some time trying to decide on the perfect first project for baby.

Tolkien Approved Baby Gift

The baby socks that I cast on last week turned into a whole baby set for a colleague who is going on maternity leave this week. I decided to make scratch mitts, the socks and a cool aviator style hat, called Aviatrix on Ravelry, that I have been wanting to try for a while. Once I had finished a sock, the mitts and the hat I realized that the sizing is a bit off. Unless of course the baby has a smallish head, tiny hands and giant feet. My friends so lovingly have referred to this as the hobbit baby set. There have been many jokes about living in the Shire. Oh well, the lovely thing about babies is that they grow. So the socks will fit eventually.

I managed to make these all from a skein of Dream in Colour Classy in colourway Spring Tickle. I have quite a bit leftover for another little baby treat. The patterns I used are Aviatrix Hat in newborn size, Jelly Bean Baby Socks, and Baby Mitts. All are available for free. I got the cute button at Lettuce Knit in Kensington Market. When I told my guy the button cost $1.50 he was horrified and informed me that it would have been cheaper to punch two holes in a looney. He also felt this would have been a shinier option. Needless to say, we went with my button.
